You don’t have to be good at trivia to support the Literacy Program. It’s all in good fun. Sample trivia to topics and questions appear below.
Dale Julin, news anchor from KSBW TV, has once again generously offered to emcee this fun community event.
The Trivia Challenge consists of three rounds: qualifying, semi-final and final (if there are ties, there is a sudden death round). Each team sits at a card table with notepads and pencils. The master of ceremonies tells teams how many seconds they will have to respond to questions within that round. The emcee then reads a question to all teams at the same time. The teams then huddle together and decide on their answer which is written and circled on the team leader’s notepad. Reviewers then check each team’s answer and give one point for each correct answer. There is no penalty for wrong answers.
Meanwhile, spectators cheer for the teams and have fun answering the questions on their pads. After each round, the Judges tally the scores and let everyone know which teams are qualified to compete in the next round. Team members who don’t qualify simply join the spectators.
The top three teams receive Trivia Challenge Champion plaques. The first place team also gets a perpetual plaque for one year which is passed to next year’s top winner and gets listed under the annual winners on this website.
