Adopt-A-Family Holiday Project

Share the spirit of the Holidays by helping a local family in need this year! We have nearly 400 of our county’s neediest families who have been referred by local schools, health and human service agencies. Without our help, the children in these families will have a bleak Christmas. Here are just a few of their stories...
"Violette" is a homeless, disabled grandmother who is raising her three grandchildren, two teenagers and a 4-year-old. They are living in a shelter and would like warm clothes, shoes and books.
"Ida" is a widow raising three teenagers. Although she works full time, they can afford only a single room in a house they share with another family. The teenagers need clothes, jackets and shoes.
"Sarah" is a 5 year-old who lost her parents in a car accident last year. An aunt and uncle who have 5 children under the age of 12 of their own are raising her and her brother. Although both adults work, they can't afford gifts for any of the children.
Every one of our families has a story like this. They need our help for the holidays!
Five Ways to Help a Family in Need
ADOPT A FAMILY Businesses, individuals, and families can adopt a family of any size. Adopters are asked to provide family packages which may include food gift certificates, clothing for the family, a small toy for each child, and household items like blankets, towels, or sheets.
TAKE A STAR Do you only have time to get one gift? Simply pick up a star from our participating local businesses, purchase the gift, and return it to the business by December 13. Stars are available at Wells Fargo Banks in Santa Cruz, Capitola, Aptos and Freedom.
DONATE GIFT CERTIFICATES Gift certificates from any grocery store, shoe store, bookstore or Department store let our families choose exactly what they need for the holidays. Teens appreciate movie passes, certificates from music stores or fast food certificates.
