Matt hand rail helping handsDine out for Helping Hands April 29 from 3-9PM Many seniors in our community  live on a fixed income and must make the difficult decision between their safety and covering monthly expenses. Helping Hands makes the difference in the lives of low-income homeowners by mobilizing volunteers to provide free safety related minor home repairs.  Helping Hands relies on the labor and funds donated by community members, local clubs and area businesses. You can show your support by dining out at the Bittersweet Bistro. 33% of your bill will goes towards the program. Learn More

cc_celebrate_potentialCelebrate Potential Recognition  Ceremony April 30 10AM-12PM- Join  staff, clients and fellow mental health practitioners in celebration of the success of clients from our mental health program Community Connection. Each year Community Connection works with hundreds of local individuals struggling with mental health issues to make positive life changes, identify their unique talents and reconnect with the community via work, volunteerism, or social activities.  Join us at our Harvey West Offices (300 Harvey West Blvd).

Fo_client_artDrawing Us Together Art Show -April Community members are invited to the Friends Outside client art exhibit at The Abbey Coffee, Art & Music Lounge (350 Mission St., Santa Cruz).  All art pieces have been created by current and former incarcerated clients. Check out it and  learn about social change programs dedicated to breaking the cycle of incarceration. The art will remain on display throughout the month of April.

 

seedling-in-handsJoin Hands Day May 3 from 10 AM -2 PM – Youthserve will team up with the Homeless Garden Project for a day of National Service designed to bring  young people and adults together to build new relationships and foster community. 2014 Human Race Walkathon and Fun Run on May 10th- HumanRace_Logo_VerySmallStep right up for the 34th Annual Human Race  in honor of your favorite community cause. Join the fun with a people’s parade of banners and lively costumes, eclectic music, a post race family carnival and over 2000 participants from all corners of the community gearing up to walk, run, or wheel their way along West Cliff Drive in support of their chosen non-profit, school or community group. YS Senior Tech Day - WatsonvilleSenior Tech Days- YouthSERVE has joined forces with area senior service programs to help local seniors increase their skills with technology, social media, and digital devices. This year marks her 30th year with the Volunteer Center. Her passion for community development and the service movement are an inspiration to us all. Friends Outside_parent holding child's handFriends Outside Volunteer Orientation- 1st Tuesday of Every Month @ 10AM- Join Friends Outside staff at the Volunteer Center to learn how you can help individuals and families in the transition from incarceration to back to the community. Friends Outside volunteers are making huge strides in reducing the recidivism rate and you can too.
