Volunteer Initiative Program (VIP)
Santa Cruz County Government Volunteer Program
The Volunteer Initiative Program matches interested community members with volunteer opportunities throughout County Government. VIP was started in 1984 as a partnership between the County of Santa Cruz and the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County, and is fully funded by the Board of Supervisors. To date, about five thousand people have volunteered through the VIP program, with around 400 volunteering at any one time.
Work to divert juvenile offenders from the justice system, provide tutoring to children after school, research cases for the District Attorney, gather information on the impact faced by crime vicitims, and aid children suffering from mental illness. Volunteer positions are available to anyone ages 18 and over. Time commitment is dependant on volunteer assignment.
Internships are an ideal way to gain skills, update your resume, and help the County government serve the people. Many interesting internships exist within County departments and we will do our best to find or create a position where the intern will gain the most valuable experience in accordance with their area of study.
